Definition of Queuing: Simply put, queuing can be defined as a line of people waiting for something. It is an experience that we encounter everyday and that most people only tolerate. If queues become excessively long and are not organised in an orderly manner, it causes both customers and staff to be anxious. Of course this means that customers could leave with a bad impression of an organisation because of a poor queuing experience - having had to contest for their rightful space or turn with other customers. The time spent queuing is not your own time, it is the time of your customer, and must be valued. In order to manage such situations where queues could become potentially troublesome, the right solution is a Queue Management System.

There are two waiting environments for queues of people
  • The “Waiting in Line” Environment Known as the ‘head of queue’, the visitor joins a line of customers who are standing-waiting, and upon reaching the front (or head) of the queue, the visitor is guided to the next available serving terminal.
  • The “Relaxed” Waiting Environment Visitors are invited to obtain a ticket and wait in a relaxed area with comfortable seating, often with reading material or audio-visual entertainment. This helps to relax the customer and provide a pleasant wait. When it is the visitors turn, the visitors number is called along with the number of the available terminal - in situations where there are more than one serving point available.
